El Dorado County record services. Birth/death records and marriage-certificate availability follow the specific official instructions linked below. Certificate copies and marriage-license applications are different services.

Online services & information

These links were found on official source pages. Each service is handled by the office.

Order birth, death or marriage certificates (opens in a new tab)[2]Official instructions

Official El Dorado County certificate information and application options. Follow the county’s instructions for the copy type and request method you need.

Marriage license information and requirements (opens in a new tab)[9]Official instructions

Official county instructions for obtaining a new marriage license. Online application entry alone does not issue a license or replace the required appearance; confirm the license type, documents and visit arrangements.

Before you start

Appointments · New marriage license — standard in-person application
Marriage Licenses are issued between the hours of 8 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. by appointment only. [12]
Languages · New marriage license — standard in-person application
Both parties must be able to independently communicate in English for a license to be issued or a ceremony performed. If a translator is necessary, please contact our office for additional information. [13]
FBN / DBA filing instructions (opens in a new tab)[23]Official instructions

For an office visit, complete the application and schedule an appointment at the appropriate location. A separate signed-form mail route is available. The county notes the 2024 change to registrant mailing addresses.

Before you start

Appointments · In-person filing
Complete an application and schedule an appointment for an office filing. [26]
Deadlines · Initial filing — state deadline
File within 40 days after starting business under the fictitious name. [14]
Eligibility & access · Where to file — principal place of business
File in the county of your principal California business location. If you have no California business location, file in Sacramento County. [15]
Deadlines · New or changed filing — newspaper publication
Start publication within 45 days after filing. Use a qualifying newspaper in the filing county, or an adjoining county if no qualifying newspaper exists there. [16]
Information & documents · Newspaper notice — publication frequency
Publish once a week for four successive weeks. [17]
Deadlines · After publication — file the affidavit
File the publication affidavit with the County Clerk within 45 days after publication is completed. Check whether your newspaper files it for you. [18]
Deadlines · Expiration — earlier changes or abandonment can end the statement
A statement generally lasts five years, but changes or abandonment can end it earlier. [19]
Eligibility & access · No-change renewal — publication exception
An unchanged renewal filed within 40 days after expiration does not need republication. Changes can require a new publication. [20]
Information & documents · California principal business location
Provide the street address and county of the principal business location. A registrant’s separate mailing-address rule does not remove this requirement. [21]
Information & documents · Individual registrant — owner mailing address
For an individual owner, provide the full name and business mailing address if different from the business address. Do not apply older blanket residence-address instructions. [22]
FBN application / preparation (opens in a new tab)[24]Official instructions

Prepare the application before the required in-person appointment. A separate paper mail route is available.

Official-record index and copy-order instructions (opens in a new tab)[28]Official instructions

Search the Recorder index and prepare copy requests. Placing an online order does not complete payment or delivery: the county provides separate pickup and electronic-copy instructions.

Before you start

Information & documents · Name search — last and first name
For a name search, enter last name, a space and first name without a comma. Document number and book/page searches are also listed. [32]
Availability · Online access — index view and copy completion
The system displays the index. Follow the county’s separate instructions to purchase and receive document copies. [33]
Processing time · Copy order — retained request, not delivery time
The county keeps the prepared order in its system for 30 days. This is not a promise that copies take 30 days to deliver. [34]
Payments · Electronic copy requests
For electronic copies, the county requires its credit-card authorization form and an email request. The card vendor adds $2.50 for processing. [35]
Open the official-record index (opens in a new tab)[29]Online service

County-linked Recorder index. Follow the separate county instructions for payment, pickup or electronic-copy delivery.

Record a new document — county instructions (opens in a new tab)[30]Official instructions

Separate instructions for presenting a new document for recording.

Real-estate fraud monitoring (opens in a new tab)[31]Official instructions

County-linked recording-alert and fraud-monitoring information.
