Riverside HCV versus property-based lists
The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV/Section 8) waiting list remains closed. Currently, applications are only being accepted for a limited number of Project-Based Voucher (PBV) communities.
Creating a Rent Café account does not automatically place you on a waiting list. You must complete and submit an application for an available waiting list.

San Diego city HCV, public housing and PBV lists
The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) closed its Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher and Public Housing waiting lists February 1, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. This includes the waiting list for Project-Based Vouchers. SDHC is not accepting new waiting list applications at this time.
Two Housing Choice Voucher programs: Santa Cruz County, and the cities of Hollister and San Juan Bautista in San Benito County. This does not establish coverage of all San Benito County.

The site-based waiting list for Project Based Voucher rental assistance units at Sunrise Senior Apartments located at 580 Westside Blvd., in Hollister is currently open and accepting applications.
